Tintes Granulados

Although this time we will talk about granular stains, there are some questions about our first class we would like to answer here.

Q: Is there any other alternative for the antiquing technique discussed in the first class?

A: Yes. You may use a wash to get the same effect. You may prepare a wash by mixing 1 tsp. of white stain to 10 tsp. of water.

Q: How much time should I wait before applying the clear sealer?

A: Depending on the weather conditions and humidity in your zone, you should wait not less than 1 hour. We usually let the piece dry until the next day. Keep in mind that if you use a spray sealer over your piece under very humid conditions, it may cause a haze cover over the area where it is applied.

NOW LET'S GO TO THE DISCUSSION OF THE GRANULAR STAINS TECHNIQUE.

As you know we used for this technique crystalline stone stains.

These stains are called crystalline stone because they give different reflections at different angles.

You do not have to seal them because of their permanent nature.

It is recommended to use a fan brush for a better application of granular stains. For this project we used a shader brush instead because the area to paint was very narrow.

Although we always advise to place the paints on your palette or tile, this time it is convenient to work the crystalline stones directly from the jar.

Remember: the heavier the application, the heavier the texture.

Every granular stain should be mixed thoroughly. The more they are mixed, the more fluid they become. To avoid a build-up of the texture stain on the bristles of your brush, you should wash your brush occasionally.

You will get a very beautiful effect if you add glitter to the piece while it is still wet. If the piece feels cold to the touch, it is still wet.

Always keep the product mixed while you are using it.

Some problems you may encounter while using granular stains:

You may use granular stains to decorate vases, frames and for detailing.

Aunque esta charla será principalmente sobre tintes granulados, queremos contestar aquí algunas de sus preguntas sobre la clase anterior.

P: ¿Existe alguna otra alternativa para lograr la técnica de añejado explicada en la primera clase?

R: Si. Puedes utilizar una mezcla de 1 cdta. de tinte blanco con 10 cdtas. de agua. Esta solución se aplica a la pieza y se remueve el exceso con una esponja húmeda.

P: ¿Cuánto tiempo debo esperar antes de aplicar el sellador?

R: Dependerá de las condiciones del tiempo y humedad en tu zona. Debes esperar no menos de una hora. Nosotros usualmente dejamos la pieza secar hasta el próximo día. Si se usa un sellador de atomizador en condiciones de alta humedad, esto puede provocar que se forme una capa blancuzca sobre la pieza.

AHORA COMENCEMOS NUESTRA DISCUSIÓN SOBRE LA TÉCNICA CON TINTES GRANULADOS.

Como ustedes saben, utilizamos para esta técnica los tintes "crystalline stone".

Estos tintes son llamados "crystalline" (cristalinos) porque dan diferentes reflejos desde diferentes ángulos.

Debido a su naturaleza permanente no tienes que sellarlos.

Se recomienda utilizar un pincel de abanico para una mejor aplicación de los tintes granulados. Para este proyecto utilizamos un pincel chato debido a que el área que deseábamos pintar era muy estrecha.

Aunque siempre recomendamos vertir la pintura a utilizarse sobre la paleta o loza, esta vez es conveniente trabajar directamente el tinte granulado del recipiente.

Y recuerda: mientras más gruesa sea la aplicación más rústica o gruesa será la textura. 

Todo tinte granulado debe ser mezclado muy bien. Mientras mejor se mezcle, más fluida estará la pintura.

Para evitar una acumulación del tinte granulado en las cerdas del pincel, debes enjuagarlo ocasionalmente.

Conseguirás un efecto muy hermoso si le añades escarcha a la pieza mientras está húmeda. Si la pieza se siente fría al tacto, aún está húmeda.

Trata de mantener el producto mezclado mientras lo estás usando.
