*************************************** Hello Everybody! Today our discussion will be based on the dry-brushing technique. Dry-brushing is one of the most popular techniques in ceramics. It is a very easy to learn technique and its results are really beautiful. This technique is used in the decoration of animals, cherubs, trees, and any detailed figurine. It is a gradual build-up of color. Avoid applying the color too quickly because the pieces will appear to be flat stained. You must take most of the color out of the brush onto a paper towel. The brush should have just a tinting of color. Do not wet the brush with water before loading it with the color. If you are using many different colors in your dry-brushing technique, apply the darkest color first and finish with the lightest color on top. When painting animals, usually a dark brown or black base coat is used. There are special brushes to make the dry-brushing technique easier. But you can use a hard bristle brush to get the same results. When you start dry-brushing, use the same brush going from one color to the other until you finish the dry-brushing process. Possible problem that you may encounter when dry-brushing: Too much color applied when you dry-brush or crevices filled with unwanted color. Solution: apply the base coat again and repeat the dry-brushing process. We want to give you some alternatives for decorating your Christmas Tree: For decorating your tree, you may use glitter to enhance the end of the branches. You may place a bow made of a very thin gold ribbon on top of the tree. You may attach tiny gold pearls to the branches to simulate Christmas ornaments. If you dry-brush the tree with an orange and a yellow stain you will give your tree an autumn look. These are just a few ideas. With a little imagination you can create your own style for decorating your Christmas tree. NOW, LET'S TALK ABOUT WATER-BASED METALLIC STAINS! They may be used over opaque stains or directly over bisque. They can be used for drybrushing, sponging, antiquing, detail design, etc. These products should be applied with a soft brush. Keep the brush well loaded with color and remember to smooth out all the brushstroke marks. Shake them vigorously and stir before using. It is best to stir frequently while working to maintain the pigment in suspension. Because of the sealant in the color you must clean the lip of the jar and the lid to avoid any difficulty in re-opening the jar. Brushes may be cleaned with soap and water. We have been using the gold metallic stain. For our next class, we will use a copper metallic stain. This is all for our discussion today. Hoy discutiremos la técnica de pincel seco. La técnica a pincel seco es una de las más populares en la cerámica. Es muy fácil de aprender y sus resultados son muy hermosos. Esta técnica es usada en la decoración de animales, querubines, árboles y cualquier figura con detalles. La técnica a pincel seco se basa en una aplicación gradual del color hasta llegar al tono deseado. No debe aplicarse el color demasiado rápido para evitar que la pintura entre en los recovecos. Debes sacar casi todo el tinte del pincel. Para lograrlo utiliza un papel toalla o un papel de estraza. En el pincel debe quedar sólo una mínima cantidad de pintura. No mojes el pincel en agua antes de comenzar a pintar. Si estás usando diferentes colores en tu proyecto a pincel seco, aplica los colores más oscuros primero y termina tu proyecto con el color más claro. Cuando se pintan animales, usualmente se utiliza una capa base de color marrón oscuro o negro. Hay pinceles especiales para facilitar la técnica de pincel seco. Pero puedes lograr el mismo resultado utilizando un pincel de cerda dura. Cuando comiences el procedimiento de pincel seco utiliza el mismo pincel pasando de un color a otro hasta que termines todo el proyecto. Posible problema al utilizar esta técnica: Demasiado color o hendiduras pintadas con color no deseado. Solución: aplica nuevamente la cubierta base. Hoy les daremos algunas alternativas para completar la decoración de su árbol de Navidad: Para decorar tu árbol puedes usar escarcha en las puntas de las ramas. Puedes colocar un lazo hecho con una cinta fina color dorado en el tope del árbol. Puedes pegarle en las ramas pequeñas perlitas doradas que simulen las bombillas de Navidad. Si le aplicas al árbol pinceladas secas color naranja y amarillo aquí y allá crearás un árbol otoñal. Estas son sólo algunas ideas. Con un poco de imaginación podrás crear tu propio estilo para decorar tu árbol de Navidad. AHORA HABLEMOS DE LOS TINTES METÁLICOS CON BASE DE AGUA! Pueden ser usados sobre tintes opacos o directamente sobre la pieza en bizcocho. Se utilizan para pinceladas secas, para pintar con esponja, para añejar, para detallar, etc. Debes agitarlos vigorosamente y mezclarlos mientras los usas. Es mejor mezclarlos con frecuencia para mantener el pigmento en suspensión. Debido a que estos tintes contienen un sellador, debes mantener limpios el borde del recipiente y la tapa para evitar dificultades al abrirlos de nuevo. Este producto debe ser aplicado con un pincel suave. Mantén el pincel lleno de color y recuerda suavizar las pinceladas. El pincel debe lavarse con agua y jabón. Para esta clase utilizamos un tinte metálico dorado. Para la próxima clase usaremos el tinte metálico cobrizo. Esto es todo por hoy.
